FAQs
What are the ingredients in DermaSwim?
DermaSwim products are formulated using primarily natural ingredients. In fact, our “new and improved” (launched fall of 2013) DermaSwim Pro version is about 97% natural!
Here is a list of the ingredients in the new and improved DermaSwim Pro. If you’d like ingredients for a prior version, please email us.
Water, Isoamyl Laurate, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Beeswax, Glyceryl Oleate, Polyglyceryl-3-Polyricinoleate, Olea Europaea (Olive) Oil Unsaponifiables, Caprylic/Capric Triglycerides, Coco-Caprylate, Glycerin, Aloe Barbadensis, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Fragrance, Magnesium Sulfate, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Seed Oil, Citric Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Potassium Sorbate
What if I want to put on both DermaSwim and SPF?
We hear from our customers that the best approach is to put on DermaSwim, let it soak in for a few minutes or longer, then put the sunblock over the top of it. However, you should test a small patch of your skin with both products to make sure that your skin will be compatible with the combination.
Has DermaSwim been tested, and is it safe?
We always test DermaSwim products for countless hours in pools and hot tubs before bringing it to the public. Tens of thousands of swimmers, from children, to adults swimming for exercise or enjoyment, to people in aqua thereapy, to serious competitors have used DermaSwim products through the years. We have never had a report of any kind of adverse reaction to DermaSwim products. However, as with all lotions, it is recommended that you test a small area first to make sure that it is compatible with your skin type.
Do you test DermaSwim on animals?
NEVER. Unless you mean the human kind that wear goggles and swim a 100 in under a minute.
Is DermaSwim safe for kids or babies?
DermaSwim products are generally safe for children’s skin, however we do NOT recommend using DermaSwim on children or infants that need to be carried. DermaSwim can make skin VERY slippery when it’s wet. Only use DermaSwim on children if they can walk on their own and don’t need to be carried, and follow the regular instructions as well, including not putting DermaSwim on the bottoms of feet. Of course, as with all lotions it is recommended that you test a small area first to make sure that it is compatible with each child’s skin type.
Does DermaSwim Pro need to be washed off after swimming?
No! You may leave it on. It will soak in, leaving skin soft and moisturized. After a swim or hot tub session, simply rinse off in the shower to get the pool or hot tub water off your skin - soap isn't necessary. In fact, the whole experience for swimmers using DermaSwim Pro has changed. Instead of the old days trying desperately to scrub off the chlorine after swimming, now only a quick shower is recommended to rinse off the residual pool water. Imagine, no scrubbing routine, and no post swim itch or dryness. Just moisturized skin!
Are chlorine, bromine, and all the other stuff they put in pools and hot tubs really so bad?
These chemicals are necessary to keep pools clean and free of germs, bacteria, and more. That’s a good thing. Unfortunately, many people are seriously affected by these agents, including side effects such as itching, drying and pool rash. Those who experience these should find significant relief by using DermaSwim Pro, and enjoy their swims a great deal more than they used to.
Others who aren't as sensitive to chlorine and may feel they don't need a pre-swimming lotion. However, we believe that even if you don't notice excessive drying and itching or other side effects, the repeated contact with chlorine is not good for your skin long term anyway. It makes sense to protect your skin before a problem occurs, as well as when one already has.
Does DermaSwim Pro make you swim faster?
We get this question a lot. We never scientifically tested whether there’s a difference. Some people feel they swim a little faster with it, some don't notice a speed difference. One common report is that your skin feels much better in the water with DermaSwim Pro than without, which may make you feel faster!
How does one meet the "shower before entering pool" rule while wearing DermaSwim?
We suggest two simple routines. One, change into your suit, apply DermaSwim Pro to your skin, then enter the shower and rinse off without using soap. The DermaSwim is waterproof and won't come off with a light rinse.
Or, take a soapy shower before your swim, dry off, put your DermaSwim on, swim, then just rinse off the pool water without using soap. We prefer this method because it means more clean people in pools!
Either way, you've met the requirement, and you're ready for a swim with your protective lotion on. See "How do I use DermaSwim?" for full usage details.
Will putting on a lotion before swimming "gunk up" the pool?
DermaSwim Pro is waterproof, and does not rinse off in the pool. In fact, we believe that using DermaSwim products keeps pools cleaner since dry skin is sealed in rather than flaking off in the water. A bit unappealing, but true. Pool Facilities should appreciate this characteristic.
Can you put DermaSwim Pro all over your body?
DermaSwim can be applied to everywhere except for the bottoms of feet, hair, in the eyes, including the area around eyes where goggles cover, and since we get asked this a lot, it technically shouldn’t go on “privates”. Heck, we’ll just say it, it’s not recommended for genitals. However, in our view skin is skin, so if we’re talking about “regular” skin, sure, give it a try if there’s an issue. Mainly just don’t put it in the very private privates, if you know what we mean. Check with a dermatologist no matter what before putting it in remote places.
Many of our swimmers actually apply it over almost their entire bodies, as any missed spot becomes the itchy spot! DermaSwim products are for external use only. See "Instructions" for full usage details.
I have a strange skin reaction going on. Can you help us determine if DermaSwim will solve it?
We get a ton of emails about various skin conditions. We feel empathy for all of them and want to help. We can’t diagnose conditions, however. We always refer people back to their dermatologist. We recommend asking your doctor if he or she thinks DermaSwim will help the situation. It might be a good idea to take them the ingredients (which are listed above). We can say that DermaSwim seems to help with a lot of issues related to chlorine, bromine, etc., so we’re hopeful that whatever you might be experiencing can be resolved easily with DermaSwim as well!
Do you provide samples of DermaSwim products?
We no longer send small samples of DermaSwim lotions. The reason for this is that we have found it’s better to use the lotion a few times to truly realize the difference of swimming with DermaSwim versus without. Our theory about why this is the case is that if you help protect skin that has recently been damaged by chlorine one time, you will notice some benefit, but if you use it several times, the chlorine side effects will truly start to go away. Therefore, using a sample one or two times simply isn't going to show you how effective this lotion really is. We rarely, rarely get a response that DermaSwim lotions haven't worked for someone. If you give DermaSwim a try and aren't completely satisfied with it, we do have a 100% money back guarantee. See our return policy for more details.
Do you ship DermaSwim overseas?
We will be restarting international shipping around Oct 21 of 2013. We ship via United States First Class. The shipping costs are a bit high, and it takes a while to get there. We therefore recommend buying 3 tubes or jars at a time. It cuts the per unit price down a bit compared to a single tube or jar.
Can I become a distributor of DermaSwim products in the US?
We’d love to talk to you about it. Please email us.
Can I become a distributor of DermaSwim products outside the US?
We appreciate you asking. We are interested, but it’s usually complicated. If you happen to know the importing rules and some shipping costs/options ahead of time it would help. Please contact us to discuss it.
Is there a retailer near me?
We mainly sell DermaSwim ourselves through Amazon.com, through online retailers, and through a variety of swim product stores and clubs. Because DermaSwim is a niche product (not everyone swims, and for that matter not all swimmers think they need DermaSwim, although we think they do), we don’t sell through a lot of brick and mortar stores. Feel free to email us to see if there’s a store near you, otherwise buying online is the way to go.
